Laughter Yoga is a simple yet powerful form of exercise which combines laughter exercises with yogic breathing (no prior yoga skills are required). Laughter has a deep effect on our mental and physical state and Laughter Yoga is the only technique which uses unconditional laughter to help make a positive frame of mind a choice, not a chance happening. Laughter Club can help boost natural ‘happy’ endorphins through unconditional laughter (not relying on jokes). Why laugh? To gain tremendous power! Oh, and to utilise laughter’s potential to support your journey into wellbeing (Thank you to Laughter Yoga founders, Dr Madan Kataria and Madhuri Kataria). Laughter is the body’s natural antidote to stress. Science has proven that your body cannot tell the difference between ‘pretend’ and ‘real’ laughter – so you gain the same benefits whether you fake it or make it. Laughter Clubs use laughter as a form of exercise ... which leads to natural laughter So the day you feel most grim could be the day you gain most from Laughter Club – and ‘easy laughers’ can gain heaps too!
Why is it called Laughter Yoga? - because Dr Kataria incorporated yogic breathing (pranayama) into the exercises. This has been used for thousands of years to influence the body, mind and emotions. The word ‘yoga’ means ‘unity’ or ‘to unite’.
Laughter Yoga is a non-profit, non-political, non-ideological movement whose goal is world peace through laughter - see http://laughteryoga.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=85&Itemid=265 for a more complete definition of Laughter Yoga
